💚 Curious About Your Sensitivity Superpower? Take the Clarity Quiz!

In this post, I am sharing three empowering strategies that can help you break free from negative self-talk and thought loops that undermine your greatest intentions. They are: Pause, Reflect, and Redirect, and they will help you find your path toward clarity and purpose, regardless of your circumstances.

Here are 3 Things to Do When You Don't Know What Else To Do...

1. Pause and Breathe

When life becomes overwhelming, the first step is to pause. Take a moment to breathe deeply. Inhale slowly through your nose, allowing your belly to expand, and then exhale gently through your mouth. This simple act of pausing helps to calm your racing thoughts and allows you to reconnect with your intuition and ask yourself at a deeper level - 'What's really going on?'

Pausing allows you to get clear about what you're experiencing and to respond intentionally, ideally free from overreacting in the heat of the moment. This is even more important for those of you who tend to feel your emotions more intensely, which can cause your mind to become even more active!

Here's why… When you overreact, it can intensify your stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and struggling to cope with daily challenges. This heightened emotional state can then initiate a negative feedback loop, making your sensitivity feel even more pronounced and leading to more overreactions, and the cycle continues. And… as you know, this can be a slippery slope at times!

So when you feel emotionally pulled in a million directions, pause and breathe before anything else.

2. Reflect on Your Thoughts

After you’ve taken a moment to breathe, it’s time to reflect. Personally, I find writing in a journal or on a scrap piece of paper helps. When I can't do that, I will sometimes use the audio recording feature on my phone and verbally express my emotions. If you don't have an effective 'go-to' reflection strategy, give this a try.

It could be a journal or a piece of paper where you write down anything and everything that comes to mind - rant, explore, make lists, draw if it helps - just move your energy in a way that gives you an opportunity to see things differently and reveal other perspectives. Consider these questions too… What circumstances are making you feel stuck? What thoughts are looping in your head? Are they helpful or harmful? Are they within your control or beyond your control?

By externalizing your thoughts, you create a space for clarity and understanding to unfold. Take some time to review your notes with a non-judgmental frame of mind. It helps when you look at your challenging statements and reframe them with opposite thoughts or something that makes you feel better. Look for insights within your writing as well. And, of course, look for ways to see, feel, and experience from a perspective that adds peace of mind to your life.

3. Redirect Your Energy

Once you’ve paused and reflected, the next step is to redirect your energy. This is the part I love… using Thought Nutrition™ as the foundation for redirecting energy!

Thought Nutrition™ is all about being intentional with the thoughts you feed your mind, just like you choose healthy and nutritious foods for your body. It's about recognizing negative thought patterns, understanding their messages and meanings, and then shifting to higher vibrational ones that nourish your mind and soul. And just to be clear - it is not about positive thinking as a stand-alone practice. It's about meeting your thoughts, feelings, and emotions where they are and finding a way to work with them to shift into a better state of mind.

Using your reflection journaling as your guide, pick out one or two things that you can shift into a better feeling. Consider the weight of the emotion you are feeling and look for ways to understand it and experience it in a different/better way. This shift begins the process of redirecting your energy and will raise your frequency and vibration… meaning that you will be able to attract better things too.

One of my favorite examples of shifting is a client who was grieving the loss of her son. Understandably, she was deeply sad and found it hard to motivate herself. How could she honor her grief, focus on her healing, and find a way to shift to feeling better at the same time? We brainstormed together, and she mentioned she loved the feeling she had when she found a dime. So, she incorporated that feeling into a daily walk that included leaving dimes of her own in various locations that would bring joy to another who found them. This allowed her to feel love in her heart, take in some fresh air, and shift her state of mind, redirecting her energy into something better - all while honoring the reality of her grief.

Here's the thing… choosing to pause, reflect, and redirect can be a transformative decision that will redirect your life in amazing ways! It allows you to break free from the cycle of negative and restrictive thinking and take charge of your life. The next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, remember that you can always choose to clean your slate and begin anew. Every thought is a new beginning, and every moment is an opportunity for growth and renewal.
